Westchester Medical Center is Hiring an Electrician I Near Valhalla, NY

Job Summary: The Electrician is required to perform a wide variety of journeyman level electrical

maintenance, repair and installation work including the lay out of jobs sufficiently complex to require advance planning and the maintenance of necessary supplies and records. Work is performed with considerable independence in accordance with written or oral instructions and in accordance with the National Electrical Code and OSHA standards, but with the opportunity for conferences with supervisors on electrical arrangements, amounts and type of material and on related problems. The incumbent may work as part of a crew or as lead worker on a specific project and may supervise a number of lower level maintenance and labor employees. The journeyman is fully proficient in the skills and practices of the trade, with the full knowledge of the principles, tools and techniques. The

journeyman assists in planning repairs and alterations to electrical systems. The journeyman has responsibility for determining the methods, techniques, materials (take off list), devices best suited to complete projects. Work at this grade may be completed with little or no check during progress or on completion. Supervisor may check overall work to see that it meets trade standards

Responsibilities:

  • Installs, overhauls, repairs and maintains pumps, electric motors, motor controllers, transformers, generators, motors and institutional and special electrical equipment in accordance with the National Electric Code, so that equipment will operate safely and efficiently.
  • Installs, maintains and repairs various types of intercommunication systems, fire alarm systems, public address systems, nursing call systems, security systems, etc., so that equipment will operate safely and efficiently.
  • Installs electrical conduit, tubing, shielded cable, fixtures and distribution systems so that equipment will operate safely and efficiently.
  • Installs, for safe, efficient operation, and maintains and repairs high voltage primary and secondary feeders and related equipment to extend the useful life of the system.
  • Tests new and existing systems to determine faults and makes necessary repair and/or Replacement.
  • Installs, for safe, efficient operation, and maintains and repairs telephone systems, street lighting, circuits and devices etc.
  • Performs maintenance on electrical generators and automatic switching equipment used in emergencies.
  • Maintains work area in a clean, orderly and safe condition.
  • Estimates material cost and staffing requirements to allocate resources efficiently and effectively.
  • Recommends new equipment and methods to increase productivity.
  • Assists in securing information needed for budget formulation.
  • Performs an immediate inspection in the event of an electrical or related emergency and takes proper action for repair.
  • Maintains records of work done, supplies used and supplies needed.
  • Requisitions necessary materials and supplies.
  • Performs routine and emergency repairs and maintenance, both scheduled and in response to emergency situations, as required.
  • Depending on work location, may operate equipment and devices, participate in snow removal, etc., as assigned.
  • May use computer applications or other automated systems such as spreadsheets, word processing, calendar, e-mail and database software in performing work assignments
  • May perform other incidental tasks, as needed.

Qualifications/Requirements:

Experience: Four years electrical experience required; or four years full time experience under a journeyman electrician which provided training equivalent to that given in an apprenticeship program.

Education: High school or possession of an equivalency diploma

Special Requirements: Possession of a valid license to operate a motor vehicle in New York State. Depending on work assignment, may be required to have a CDL license; (2) Depending on work assignment, must meet standards of OSHA regulation 1910.134 Respiratory Protection, and will be required to meet Federal, State and local standards with respect to health and safety.
